October 1999 saw the commissioning and implementation of a fleet of brand new specialised ramp vehicles and the recruitment of a team of additional drivers to undertake the carriage of cargo and mail between our cargo facilities and the arriving and departing aircraft. The ramp fleet was expanded by the purchase of additional vehicles in 2001.
Our team of Transport Controllers use a satellite tracking system to pinpoint the exact location of a specific vehicle at any time, whilst also maintaining radio contact with our drivers. All our vehicles are taxed for use on landside roads, and also have London Borough of Transport scheme passes. We hold a licence to transport Section 5 firearms and our curtain-sided vehicles are protected by specialised "shark-mesh" which prevents any attempt to gain unauthorised entry into the vehicle.
In March 2001, Plane Handling Ltd invested a further £1.2 million in acquiring it's own state-of-the-art air cargo transport fleet. The brand-new fleet comprises of forty-foot power roller trailers, equipment capable of handling main-deck Q7 pallets, and satellite linked tractor units. The vehicles are used to provide dedicated transportation of airline customers'
cargo between Plane Handling's various Heathrow based facilities and Gatwick, plus a frequent daily service linking Heathrow with the company's facility at Manchester airport.
In September 2007, Plane Handling Ltd was awarded the Platinum Level of the
Clean Vehicles Programme by BAA Heathrow.
