TRAINING DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

At Plane Handling, we consider staff training to be central to our business, hence the comprehensive and innovative training offered to our employees by our own Training Development Division (TDD).

Within TDD, our Training Officers, backed up by Work-Placed Trainers, provide instruction and guidance to new and existing staff within all of our facilities at LHR and the Regions. Experience totalling in excess of 100 years of service in the aviation business, means that the TDD staff possess a wealth of knowledge, have all "paid their dues" within the operation and are fully qualified to provide the in-house training offered to our staff.

Where necessary, our Training Officers are licensed by the appropriate control authority to carry out training. An example of this is the authority to train to ALL levels under the Aviation Security Act. Indeed, Plane Handling is even listed on the Department for Transport website as being authorised to offer such training to other organisations.

In some cases, we buy in training from specialist providers, an example being IATA Dangerous Goods by Air. Our policy is to buy the best such training available, and our providers are audited to ensure their product meets our stringent standards.

Furthermore, in addition to their training responsibilities, our Operational Trainers are qualified auditors under ISO9001-2000, our rationale being: "If our training reflects the highest quality standards, then our procedures and actions will follow."

Comprehensive? Absolutely. We not only provide our staff with the necessary basic skills to do their job efficiently and to be safe and secure in their workplace, but we also offer opportunities for additional in-house training or other skills learning opportunities.

Innovative? Definitely. Our staff have the opportunity to undertake Personal Development Training. We arrange temporary transfers to other departments with a view to understanding our colleagues' situation and how we can work more closely together as a team. Training options are discussed with our staff, and their input encouraged. We also publish our Quality Management System and Health & Safety procedures on our Intranet to ensure staff have quick and easy access to all the information they need.

We routinely offer refresher training (and testing) on the Intranet for a range of subjects using Computer Based Tuition. This allows our staff to access training programmes from their desk, saving precious time whilst maintaining our training product and standards.

In a nutshell, Plane Handling does not pay lip service to training. We acknowledge our responsibilities to our staff and appreciate the competitive advantage that grows from having well trained and motivated staff.

We also recognise that investment is vital, both in terms of qualified trainers and in the training facilities themselves. Our fully equipped training suite, located within our latest cargo terminal at LHR, has been specifically designed to meet the needs of a modern company, dedicated to its staff and customers.
